Wormhole [W] has faced significant market pressure in the past day, recording a roughly 10% loss.
The decline in W has lasted for weeks now, with the asset down 24% in the past week. Data from CoinGlass shows that one group, known as whales, is driving this decline, and a rally is still on the table.
Whales drive W’s decline
The decline the market witnessed in the past day has been whale-driven. This insight is based on price performance and the Whale Retail Delta, which tracks whether whales or retail investors in the market are dominating price movements.
The Delta has a reading of 0.323, which is up from its previous day’s level and maintains a positive stance. This indicates that whales have been dominant in previous days, and the recent surge in the Delta confirms that their interest has increased in the past day.

AMBCrypto examined where these whales were most active and found that OKX whales had the most impact, as they were extremely bearish, with their sell volume engulfing their buy volume. Whales on Bybit had a more neutral stance.
On Binance, on the other hand, whales were already accumulating the asset. Further analysis of other metrics shows that a potential rebound could be on the table and that the recent decline could have been a stop-hunt move.

Liquidity points to a possible W rebound
The liquidation heatmap analysis shows that the recent decline may have been a move to sweep liquidity below the price. Usually, a cluster below or above the price tends to pull the asset towards it. The former was the case here.
At the time of writing, there is a cluster of liquidity above the price. Compared with the minimal liquidity below the price, there is a higher chance of an upswing towards an upper target level on the chart.

The move would require massive bullish momentum in the market for the surge to be sustained and push the price even higher on the chart. For now, there has been no clear bullish momentum in the market, increasing the chances that the price will remain subdued or, in fact, drop lower on the chart.
Funding rate shows reduced selling pressure
There is no clear evidence of buying in the market. However, bullish sentiment has been quietly building in other areas of the market.
The Funding Rate, which tracks whether long or short traders are dominant in the market, confirms that short positioning remains dominant, although it has reduced significantly.

Between September 14 and the time of writing, the Funding Rate had moved from -0.0484% to around -0.0083%. This increase means there has been a gradual reduction in short positioning in the market as bullish strength gradually builds.
If the increase continues, it is likely to reflect in price performance, adding to the bullish momentum needed for the price to make an upswing in the near term.
Final Summary
- W has dropped over the past week, with whale selling on OKX driving recent losses, while Binance whales have begun accumulating the asset.
- The Funding Rate improved from -0.0484% to -0.0083%, suggesting reduced bearish positioning, although W still needs stronger bullish momentum to sustain a recovery.
