Neo SPCC has launched a publicly hosted S3-compatible gateway for NeoFS on MainNet, providing developers with access to decentralized object storage through standard Amazon S3 API tooling. The service was announced on Sept. 22.
The public S3 gateway is a hosted instance of the open-source NeoFS S3 Gateway software, operated by Neo SPCC and accessible to the public. It represents a general-purpose S3 gateway available as managed infrastructure on MainNet. Developers can now use familiar tools such as aws-cli, boto3, and other S3-compatible SDKs to interact with NeoFS storage without running their own gateway.
Getting started
To use the public gateway, developers first generate S3 credentials using one of two methods. The neofs-s3-authmate CLI tool provides credential generation from the command line, producing an access key ID and secret access key pair that can be used with standard S3 clients. Alternatively, the Authbox HTTP service, introduced in S3 Gateway v0.46.0 earlier this month, offers the same functionality through a REST API, lowering the barrier for developers who prefer not to use CLI tooling.
Once credentials are issued, standard S3 operations work against NeoFS, including bucket creation, object upload and download, and access management. Credentials are session tokens signed by the user and encrypted for the gateway’s public keys, with configurable expiration periods. Detailed instructions for credential generation are available in the authmate documentation.
Using NeoFS requires a GAS balance deposited to the NeoFS smart contract address to cover storage costs.
NeoFS public services ecosystem
The public S3 gateway joins a growing set of public-facing NeoFS services maintained by Neo SPCC. Panel.NeoFS provides a web-based management interface for account and container administration, while Send.NeoFS offers file sharing with public and private link support. A public REST gateway also serves as an HTTP-accessible interface to NeoFS storage.
Where those services are oriented toward end users and web-based workflows, the S3 gateway adds a developer-facing API layer designed for programmatic integration. Service status and availability information can be found at status.fs.neo.org.
