Bitcoin holders showed signs of capitulation before the latest rally, with smaller wallets disappearing during the July-August shakeout. The data shows 62,335 wallets holding 0.1-1 BTC and another 7,159 wallets holding 1-10 BTC disappeared before $BTC reclaimed $80K.
Bitcoin Holders Lost Conviction Before Breakout
That selling matters because capitulation can leave supply in stronger hands. Once fearful holders finish selling, less reactive supply may remain available to dump into another rally, particularly when larger buyers continue absorbing coins.

The timing is notable. The wallet decline came before Bitcoin broke above $85K for the first time since January, suggesting smaller holders had already reduced exposure before momentum returned. It doesn’t guarantee another rally, but the sequence shows how retail fear can appear before a sharp price recovery.
$648M Short Squeeze Added Fuel
Then came the squeeze. Roughly $648 million in bearish crypto positions were liquidated as Bitcoin pushed above $85K. Falling oil prices also improved risk appetite, adding another factor behind the move.

The result was a breakout that punished traders positioned for further downside. Crypto markets have repeatedly shown how crowded positioning can become vulnerable when price moves in the opposite direction.
$88K-$92K Range Now Sets Next Test

The next major hurdle is the $88K-$92K range. Bitcoin needs to break through that area, according to the supplied market setup, with a sustained move beyond it becoming particularly important for the 2026 price structure.
If that range breaks, the supplied outlook sees room for Bitcoin price to eventually surpass $100K by year-end and establish a more dominant trading range in 2026. For now, though, the $85K breakout has already shifted the immediate setup after fearful Bitcoin holders sold during the earlier shakeout.
