The agent angle is the newest piece, and the release keeps it in the future tense. Agents are starting to shop, book and sign up for services on their owners’ behalf, which leaves businesses unsure who’s behind a given request. Moca says AIR is extending its credentials so a business will be able to confirm who an agent acts for and what it’s allowed to do before offering access, pricing or rewards. When that check ships, and how an owner would set an agent’s limits, isn’t spelled out.
Nine months past the first target
Moca announced the chain in June 2025 and promised a testnet that quarter and a mainnet in Q4. By December it was already saying mainnet would come in 2026, when it released the MocaProof beta on the testnet. The launch lands about nine months past the end of the quarter Moca first named. Kenneth Shek, managing director of Moca Network, called it “a foundation, not a finish line.”
Reach numbers deserve the same care. The release repeats the 700 million “addressable users” figure Animoca has used since 2025, which the company originally described as an estimate of people reachable through its portfolio and partners. It isn’t a count of accounts on the network. Moca itself has said AIR reached 3.3 million accounts.
Payment networks are building agent identity too
Moca enters a field that has filled quickly. Visa launched its Trusted Agent Protocol in October 2025, and on September 10 Visa, Mastercard and Ant International announced a Know Your Agent framework meant to let their separate agent protocols work together, though Forkast noted it came with no specs, governance or timeline. On the Ethereum side, ERC-8004 defines on-chain registries for agent identity, reputation and validation. Where those efforts run through payment networks or public registries, Moca’s runs through credentials that partner organizations issue on its own chain.
What the release doesn’t say
Plenty of basics are missing. There’s no count of credentials issued or verified on mainnet, and no split between partners that are live and partners that have simply signed on. Some of the relationships predate the chain, too. SK Planet’s OK Cashbag integrated AIR Identity before mainnet, so it’s hard to tell from the announcement which usage is new. Validators and fees go unmentioned, and MOCA appears only as the utility and governance token. AIR Money’s payouts are called compliant, with no word on who holds the licenses to move the money.
Regulation is another open question. Whether a regulated business could rely on a credential another company issued to meet its own KYC duties isn’t addressed, and rules on that vary by jurisdiction. As for who’s involved, Moca Network is an Animoca Brands project, and the boilerplate in the release lists Open Campus, one of the named partners, among platforms Animoca has built.
