Ethereum has cleared the level analyst John Gillen says mattered most. According to him, ETH’s move above $2,500 opens the way to $3,000 next, with a possible run toward $10,000 to $12,000 over the next two years if key conditions hold.
Gillen was careful not to lock in a single number. He said Ethereum is “much harder to predict than Bitcoin” because its price swings sharply and does not follow a set pattern.
Price Path Gillen Is Watching
Gillen laid out a step-by-step roadmap:
- $2,500: The key resistance Ethereum has now broken and held. He said this level must not be lost.
- $3,000: The next target, which he expects to arrive “pretty quickly.”
- $5,000: The historical ceiling Ethereum has reached twice without breaking through.
- $6,000 to $10,000: His expected range once ETH clears and holds above $5,000.
- $10,000 to $12,000: His stretch target for the next 24 months.
Above $5,000, he said, Ethereum enters price discovery, where nobody can say with confidence where the top sits.
Why Ethereum Could Finally Break Out
Gillen said Ethereum’s early rallies between 2015 and 2021 were priced on promises: a world computer and a base layer for global finance. The past five years have been about delivering on them.
He pointed to the network’s switch from proof of work to proof of stake without any downtime, along with a steady stream of institutions launching products on Ethereum. The network leads in tokenized assets, stablecoins and agentic finance, he said, holding roughly 55% to 70% of that market.
According to Gillen, ETH is now pushing toward the top of its five-year range and turning a long downtrend against Bitcoin.
The $6,000 vs $20,000 Question
The biggest variable, in his view, is where institutional money settles over the next two years. It could land on Ethereum, move to private permissioned chains, or flow to rival public networks.
Ethereum can still reach $10,000 without dominating, Gillen said. If it keeps the lion’s share, he believes the case becomes “very strong,” and that is the difference between a $6,000 ETH, a $12,000 ETH and a $20,000 ETH.
What It Could Mean For Altseason
Gillen does not think Ethereum has to lead the next altcoin rally, but he called it the blue-chip altcoin. If ETH gets above $5,000 to $6,000 and holds there, he expects $2 trillion to $6 trillion to enter the crypto market in a short time.
His rough outlook has total crypto market value climbing from about $3 trillion toward $10 trillion if the bull market confirms, which would mark the first full altseason since 2021.
