- Vitalik Buterin played with bringing back ERC-4337 in his recent blog.
- ZK-EVMs may also be able to assist with data storage.
Implementing major upgrades to Ethereum [ETH] is not something new. This is because the blockchain has successfully completed at least one substantial development every year in recent years.
How many Worth 1,10,100 ETHs today?
Now Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has suggested more could be achieved in the technology blockchain through more experiments.
Vitalik calls for an increase in the chain
On September 30 Buterin Posted on his blog and titled the article “Should Ethereum be OK with embedding more things into the protocol?” About six months ago, Buterin had also posted extensively about its viability.
According to the new blog post, Buterin revealed that account abstraction and scaling now implemented were two areas that the blockchain wanted to improve back in 2015.
For context, account abstraction is the process of making it easier for users to interact with blockchain by customizing elements of smart contract accounts, from fees to transaction approval mechanisms.
On the other hand, the main purpose of scaling up is to improve transaction speed and throughput without affecting the security or decentralization of Ethereum.
Buterin also noted that the Ethereum protocol could include more features. But this would require reducing some features.
First, it may be necessary to bring back ERC-4337. The ERC-4337, written by Buterin himself along with five other developers, was the token standard that introduced account abstraction.
The return of the standard could help with censorship resistance, gas efficiency, and support for Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) opcodes.
Buterin further emphasized that,
“Fully functional ERC-4337 wallets are large. This implementationcompiled and chained takes ~12,800 bytes.”
ZK for storage
Another aspect Buterin touched on was the ZK-EVMs. ERC-4337 also plays a role in this regard, but the emphasis here is more on scaling rather than account abstraction. According to him, the ZK protocol function could help with Ethereum’s multi-client philosophy.
Realistic or not, here it is The market cap of ETH in BTC terms
However, he acknowledged that the project could face a challenge if this component is entrenched. This is due to the limited data that the Ethereum blockchain can store. But he also said ZK-EVMs can compress more data.
Buterin wrote:
“ZK-EVMs are much more data efficient if they do not have to carry “witness” data. That is, if a particular piece of data has already been read or written in a previous block, we can simply assume that provers have access to it, and we don’t need to make it available again.”
In other parts of the blog post, he also mentioned how liquid staking could boost ecosystem participation, specifically on Lido Finance [LDO] and Rocket Pool [RPL].
