TL; DR

The Freedom Tool is a secure and anonymous voting system that uses zk-proofs to eliminate fraud, miscounting, tampering and voter suppression.
Full story
We just learned about a new way to cast votes in elections that could – dare we say it – change the world.
We are talking about zk-proofs, used for voting.
That sounds bizarre! But here’s the thing:
With Zk-proofs, blockchains can validate information without actually seeing all the information. (It’s weird).
For example, a zk certificate could validate that your age is over 21, without having to reveal your age factual age or birthday.
This is how it would work with elections:
The project is called ‘The Freedom Tool’ and its essence is that a one-time passport scan is made, which guarantees two things:
-
Every voter is eligible
-
They only get one vote
Then, once the voter gets to the booth, zk-proofs verify their eligibility and vote count → the vote is cast and posted publicly (all without revealing any of the voter’s personal information).
This new system has a lot of cool new features/results, including but not limited to:
-
Repeated or fraudulent votes would be impossible.
-
People would be able to vote anywhere, anytime, eliminating the need for a range of voter suppression tactics.
-
Human interaction would be removed from the election process, preventing potential miscounts and tampering.
-
Since all votes would be published on the blockchain, the results could be shown in real time.
(The phrase “world-changing” doesn’t feel so out of place now, does it?)
