Layer-1 blockchain The Open Network (TON) issues a statement in support of Telegram founder Pavel Durov following his recent arrest in France.
TON said on the social media platform that its network will continue to function as usual following Durov’s detention for alleged offenses related to the messaging app Telegram.
“As a community committed to freedom of expression and decentralization, we firmly stand with Pavel during this challenging time. Pavel is a committed advocate for these values, and we believe his efforts to promote an open and decentralized internet will continue to inspire millions.
The TON community remains focused on our mission and we will continue our work to uphold these principles worldwide. We encourage everyone to remain calm, united and keep building as we navigate this situation together.”
According to a report from the BBC, the billionaire was arrested at a French airport after being accused of failing to moderate Telegram for content related to drugs, fraud and other criminal activities.
Telegram has previously denied the accusation.
The Open Network was originally developed by Telegram in 2018, but was later renamed Toncoin after it was acquired by the TON Foundation, an international group of independent developers.
TON is trading at $5.76 at the time of writing, up fractionally over the past 24 hours.
