peaq, a blockchain platform tailored for real-world applications, recently expanded its ecosystem with the addition of PowerPod, a company focused on decentralizing electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. PowerPod’s initiative involves the creation of a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) with community-owned EV charging stations.

In this collaboration, peaq will serve as the layer 1 backbone for the DePIN, facilitating functions such as storing charging session data, managing transactions, and rewarding users with tokens for their contributions to a more sustainable mobility future.
The rise of electric vehicles, seen as a more environmentally friendly option, is gaining momentum. However, a major barrier to their widespread adoption is inadequate infrastructure, especially the scarcity of charging stations. About a third of potential EV buyers cite this issue as a deterrent.
Interestingly, the hundreds of thousands of private chargers installed by EV owners represent an important untapped resource that could strengthen the industry while allowing individuals to monetize their energy assets.
PowerPod’s innovative platform aims to close this gap by allowing individuals to share their EV chargers with other drivers and earn rewards for providing this service. In addition to the easy-to-use app that enables these interactions, PowerPod is developing a range of hardware devices, including smart charger adapters, chargers and travel adapters. These devices will form the infrastructure of the DePIN, process the charging session data and facilitate payment transactions.
In the integration with peaq, PowerPod will equip these devices with multi-chain self-sovereign peaq IDs, enabling seamless connectivity to the blockchain. Additionally, peaq will provide data storage capabilities, and PowerPod plans to launch its token on the peaq mainnet in the near future. The partnership also includes using peaq to establish a rewards mechanism, incentivizing users with tokens for their participation in the DePIN ecosystem.
According to Ting, co-founder of PowerPod, “The DePIN model is perfect to leverage the full capacity of the electric car industry.”
“By leveraging Web3, PowerPod enables people worldwide to contribute to a more sustainable future while taking advantage of existing charging infrastructure.”
Ting, co-founder of PowerPod
He adds, “The DePIN-focused functionalities and economic framework that peaq provides will significantly accelerate our development and deployment. We are excited about our participation in this dynamic ecosystem.”
Till Wendler, co-founder of peaq, echoes this sentiment, saying: “The smart mobility industry has shown great enthusiasm about Web3. It’s exciting to see PowerPod use the DePIN model to close a critical gap for the electric vehicle market while giving individuals more ownership over the hardware backbone. We are confident that PowerPod will bring new value and opportunities to the entire ecosystem.”
In summary, the partnership between PowerPod and peaq represents significant progress in improving the accessibility and sustainability of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. By using blockchain technology and decentralized economics, they aim to revolutionize the EV charging landscape and usher in a more inclusive and environmentally friendly transportation era.

About peak
peaq is the blockchain for real-world applications. The Peaq Layer-1 blockchain allows anyone to build decentralized applications (dApps) and decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePINs) for car sharing, street maps, web access and more, creating real value as part of the Economy of Things. At peak, robots, vehicles and other connected devices turn into dynamic real-world assets (RWAs) that serve communities through fractional ownership. Peaq’s Wormhole integration links the machines on peaq to more than 30 Web3 ecosystems with a total liquidity value of billions.
peaq works with leading consortia such as Gaia-x moveID, a more than €20 million project led by Bosch, to co-create the future of smart mobility, energy, connectivity and other key industries in the real world. By empowering everyone to own, control, and monetize the devices and infrastructure they use, peaq is democratizing abundance in the age of AI-driven automation.
