The project was launched in Italy by NTT DATA Italya Japanese multinational leader in the IT sector, and the Vatican Apostolic Library. This, following the success of the project’s launch in Japan, which took place last February.
The main goal is to expand the online community of the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana by connecting the cultural institution with its supporters.
To do this, the project therefore concerns NFTs what will be the reward for Italian users who support the initiative.

How does the new project “Vatican Library Web3 Support Project” work in Italy? In short, Italian users will have that until July 16 to share the project on their social channels or make donations to the Vatican Apostolic Library through the initiative’s website.
In return, such users receive their NFT Prize which will be used as a key for access to “open” and to consult the special collection featuring high-resolution images of a selection of 21 manuscripts owned by the Library’s heritage.
Specifically, users who support the initiative by sharing it on social channels will receive an “NFT Silver” and be able to view high-resolution images of 15 manuscripts on the website.
On the other hand, anyone who wants to support the project with a donation will receive an “NFT Gold” and thus gain access to all high-resolution images of the selection.
In this connection, Don Mauro MantovaniPrefect of the Vatican Apostolic Library, stated that NTT DATA’s project fully embraces the library’s mission: to make its unique collections accessible to the public while promoting research and scientific development.
“The Library not only recognizes the value of the new communities that NTT DATA is creating, but trusts that NTT DATA will undertake future initiatives by creating similar systems with various partners around the world. For this reason, we are happy to participate in this joint project that takes advantage of the technological capabilities typical of Web3.”
In the future the project could include the presentation of new digital content formatssuch as the ability to visit spaces through immersive experiences in XR.

While today it is the Vatican Apostolic Library that embraces Web3 in 2021, launch the first collection of NFT artwork was His Holiness Pope Francis.
In fact it is the Scholas Occidentes collection, a limited edition made available on the marketplace of AkoinNFT.
On that occasion, proceeds from the sale of the first limited edition signed by the Pope were donated to the Scholas Occcurrentes Foundation, the Pope’s global charity.
