TL; DR
-
Ubisoft (creators of Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance) and Unchangeable join forces to create one new blockchain game that will entail ‘digital ownership’.
-
Digital ownership will be at the heart of this game, as will crypto assets, NFTs, and more digital assets.
-
Unfortunately, Web3 gaming often focuses too much on the blockchain-compatible elements, and not enough on the gameplay.
-
The adoption of blockchain technology probably won’t do much for Web3 gaming’s image within the broader market, but we’re still excited to play this title.
Full story
Chevy’s Aunt Ellis (recently known from her hat baby addiction) tried to trap our intern, Kevinwith her physiotherapist.
Kevin was…not amused.
He said he was looking for:
“Eve to his Adam”
Or
“Cleopatra to his Mark Antony”
While Kevin has a face for radio and probably needs to lower his standards, we also understand where he’s coming from: we love a timeless collaboration!
It’s the same reason why this latest announcement of Ubisoft (creators of Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance) and Unchangeablewe noticed.
The two companies join forces to create one new blockchain game that will entail ‘digital ownership’.
This is what’s nice about it…
While Ubisoft and Immutable haven’t said much about the actual game itself, they have highlighted two points that piqued our interest:
-
Digital ownership will be at the heart of this game, as will crypto assets, NFTs, and more digital assets.
-
Ubisoft spoke about their excitement about players’ ability to focus on having fun in this game sounds like a no brainer…
But unfortunately, Web3 gaming often focuses too much on the blockchain-compatible elements, and not enough on the gameplay.
So the emphasis on fun is welcome.
Here’s what’s not so cool about it…
If we had to summarize the most common complaints about Web3 gaming, it would probably come down to this:
“Most titles are unimaginative and often buggy.”
What’s ‘not so cool’ is that Ubisoft gets a lot of the same complaints!
So the adoption of blockchain technology is unlikely to contribute much to the image of Web3 gaming within the broader market.
That said… we don’t care!
Goods still excited to play this title.
