TL;DR
-
We asked our intern (Kevin) to write an article about the Manifold x Andy Murray NFT series – and that was a huge error of judgment. This is what he had to say:
-
“Manifold.xyz made an open edition NFT, which used a slew of sports data from Andy Murray’s (tennis) games to create this 3D color burst artwork.
-
“I can’t figure out how the sports data compares to the artwork, but I guess that’s kind of the point? We all want to look smart, so we pretend to ‘get it.’
-
‘I don’t know, maybe I’m missing something? I don’t understand modern art very well.”
-
“Except Andy Warhol. He seemed to be fascinated by canned soup – and I kind of live on it.’

We asked our intern (Kevin) to write an article about the Manifold x Andy Murray NFT series – and that was a huge error of judgment.
Here’s what he wrote (we apologize in advance):
“Apparently Andy Murray is a handsome tennis player? News to me.
(To be honest, I only follow sports where there’s a high probability of someone getting punched in the face).
Anyway, manifold.xyz made an open edition NFT, which used a slew of sports data from Andy’s games to create this 3D color burst artwork.
(I’ll make a gif of the art and use it as the header image).
I can’t figure out how the sports data compares to the artwork, but I guess that’s kind of the point?
→ They make a video of Andy throwing volleys with a motion-capture suit on.
→ Everyone who looks at it is impressed with all the effort put into it.
→ But nobody Real knows how it is used to make the art.
→ We all want to appear smart, so we pretend to ‘get it’.
Idk, maybe I’m missing something? I don’t understand modern art very well.
Except Andy Warhol. He seemed to be fascinated with canned soup – and I pretty much live on it.
Hey, you know what would be cool? If the UFC did the same, but instead of art generated by tennis volleys – it’s punches.
Okay, rest nerds.”
