Paolo Ardoino, the CEO of stablecoin publisher Tether, is suppressing rumors that his company is under investigation by federal agencies.
In a post on social media platform
The WSJ reports that the US Attorney’s Office in Manhattan is investigating whether Tether’s USDT was used by bad actors to finance illegal activities or launder the proceeds of the criminal acts.
The report also claims that the Treasury Department is considering possibly sanctioning Tether for its “widespread use” of USDT among US-sanctioned entities.
In response, Ardoino says the WSJ is just recycling long-played stories.
“As we told the WSJ, there is no indication that Tether is under investigation. WSJ regurgitates old sound. Point.”
Ardoino also highlights that Tether routinely works with US authorities to prevent bad actors from using USDT to fund illegal activities.
“At Tether, we regularly and directly work with law enforcement officials to prevent rogue states, terrorists and criminals from abusing USDT.
We would know if we were investigated, as the article falsely claims. On this basis, we can confirm that the allegations in the article are unequivocally false.”
