The infamous crypto pair accused of attempting to launder billions of dollars worth of Bitcoin (BTC) from the massive 2016 Bitfinex hack appears to have reached a plea deal.
Court records show that Ilya Lichtenstein and his wife Heather Morgan entered a plea with prosecutors this week, though details of the agreement have not been made public at the time of writing.
According to a federal court filing, the duo’s case has been closed, suggesting they have already reached an agreement with prosecutors.
According to CNBC, the husband and wife have scheduled a hearing for Aug. 3.
The pair reportedly attempted to launder Bitcoin stolen from Bitfinex after a hacker breached the exchange’s systems and then sent the stolen crypto to a wallet controlled by Lichtenstein.
After allegedly getting their hands on the stolen Bitcoin, the FBI say Lichtenstein and Morgan used a series of complex strategies to try to cover up their digital paper trail, including sending the crypto to darknet markets, using false identities and using US-based business accounts to legitimize their banking activities.
In February 2022, the US Department of Justice seized 119,754 BTC, a whopping $3.6 billion at the time, from Lichtenstein and Morgan.
Morgan is a former Forbes columnist and CEO of a copywriting company. She is also a YouTube rapper known as ‘Razzlekhan’ and she also goes by the nicknames ‘the Versace bedouin’ and ‘the crocodile of Wall Street’.
A limited television series about the couple titled “Razzlekhan: The Infamous Crocodile of Wall Street” is reportedly in development at Hulu.
