Starbucks Korea is making progress in environmental initiatives and customer service. The latest follows the brand’s announcement in Korea that customers who bring their own reusable containers for their orders will be rewarded. Consumers are encouraged to bring their own cups in exchange for a reward. On X, formerly Twitter, Polygon Labs and Sandeep Nailwal both confirmed the development.
Starbucks Korea has confirmed that customers can earn eco stamps every time they use a personal cup. The eco-seals collected are deposited into the user’s Starbucks application wallet, which can be accessed for redemption upon purchase of a Non-Fungible Token (NFT).
NFTs are categorized into Basic, Creative, and Artist, among others. Each customer can only own one NFT, which is purchased based on the number of stamps they have collected and redeemed. More details about the trial are tentatively expected to be made public in January. The Starbucks application wallet will go live next month. A new Tumbler coupon policy supports this.
Kim Beom-soo, head of marketing at Starbucks Korea, has said that they hope to become a catalyst for positive change and a star for the environment.
The introduction of the Tumbler voucher fits in with the increasing trend in the use of personal cups. The number has remained the same for 2022 at 25.3 million. The number of customers using personal cups in 2020 was 17.39 million, followed by 21.9 million the following year. The current year is expected to end with a number as high as 29.6 million.
NFTs have served artists and other creators well in supporting their creations. Digital tokens cannot be counterfeited or altered and remain true to their owner until sold on a marketplace. Its use is increasing in every field, including but not limited to music and art. Starbucks Korea’s integration of Polygon NFT is a move that could be replicated by other players in the region and then by others in different countries.
As of now, the Polygon community is optimistic about the MATIC forecast. This is evident from the fact that the token has gained 31.27% in the last 7 days. It is currently exchanging hands at $1.02 and is predicted to cross the $1.5 mark in the next few months.
