Stanford Lab, aimed at AI Research, will use the decentralized Cloud Computing platform Theta Edgecloud for his work on LLMS.
The decentralized cloud can be the solution for the enormous computer needs of AI. On April 17, Theta Labs revealed that AI from Stanford University Theta (Theta) would use Edgecloud in his work on large language models. The lab, led by university teacher Ellen Vitercik, will use the platform for discreet optimization and algorithmic reasoning of LLMS.
Stanford participates in a growing list of academic institutions that use the decentralized platform for research. According to Theta Labs, other adopters from Edgecloud are the Seoul National University, Korea University, the University of Oregon, Michigan State University and more.
Big Tech and Decentralized Services compete for AI Compute
Large technology companies have quickly expanded their investment in computer infrastructure, especially a focused on feeding AI. In 2024, Microsoft invested $ 3.3 billion in a data center in Wisconsin, with the support of the administration of Joe Biden.
At the same time, Amazon stated that it is planning to spend $ 11 billion on data centers in Indiana. Google, on the other hand, goes worldwide, invests $ 1.1 billion in its data center in Finland and builds another in Malaysia for $ 2 billion.

Yet the Big Tech model is not the only one who competes with AI -Workloads. Unlike most traditional LLM services, Theta Edgecloud works as a decentralized cloud computing platform. The infrastructure is geographically distributed, which means that it does not depend on massive centralized data centers to deliver computing power.
Instead, the Blockchain technology platform uses to reward smaller GPU providers based on the income they generate from users. This allows Theta to work with lower capital expenditure and scales faster. In turn, it offers more affordable infrastructure for users.
Theta network is a blockchain protocol that was originally designed for decentralized video streaming. However, the network has since been expanded to offer decentralized infrastructure for cloud computing, with a certain focus on AI applications.
