Disgraced crypto entrepreneur Do Kwon is embroiled in new legal troubles as authorities in Montenegro formally charged him with forgery.
According to a new report from Bloomberg, Montenegrin prosecutors have filed charges against Terraform Labs co-founder and its chief financial officer Han Chang-Joon for allegedly falsifying personal documents.
Kwon is currently being held in Montenegro after being apprehended at Podgorica airport last month. He was caught using a forged Costa Rican passport while trying to board a flight to Dubai.
Following the arrest, authorities said Kwon will be held in the southeastern European country for 30 days pending the outcome of the investigation.
The report says that prosecutors are now trying to extend the period of detention based on a statement by Dusko Milanovic, an official of the Podgorica prosecutor’s office.
Kwon is already facing multiple charges stemming from the $40 billion crash of the Terra ecosystem stablecoin TerraUSD (UST) and the crypto asset Terra (LUNA).
In the US, federal prosecutors have charged Kwon with eight charges, including securities fraud, commodities fraud and conspiracy. He also faces similar charges in his native South Korea.
Both the US and South Korea are requesting Kwon’s extradition to Montenegro.
