New data shows that hundreds of millions of dollars worth of altcoins have been siphoned off by companies linked to Tron (TRX) founder Justin Sun.
According to facts from blockchain tracker Lookonchain, five major hacks have occurred in the past 20 days, totaling $290 million in stolen funds.
Two of the affected protocols – crypto exchange HTX and Heco Bridge, a bridge used to move money between Ethereum (ETH) and the energy-saving blockchain Heco Chain – are linked to Sun, the current owner of digital asset exchange Poloniex .
According to cybersecurity firm Cyvers, the protocols were hacked for a combined amount of $100 million – of which $86 million came of the Heco bridge.
“We flagged several suspicious transactions from HECO Chain Bridge today. All the assets of HECO Chain [have] exchanged for ETH and distributed to various EOAs (external ownership accounts).
Assets transferred: 42 million USDT, 489 HBTC, 346 billion SHIB, 173,000 UNI, 619,000 USDC, 42,000 LINK and 347,000 TUSD. All told, we estimate a loss of approximately $86 million.”
Cyvers too details how HTX’s hot wallet was exploited.
“Two HTX Global hot wallets have been affected by this incident, involving 1,240 ETH, 7.3 million USDT, 1.78 million USDC and 62,200 LINK. Hacker distributed all assets to different EOAs with 1 ETH for gas fees per each address. Then all ETH transferred to [other] EOAs.”
According to Sun, all HTX customer funds are safe, but withdrawals and deposits will be temporary suspended. Sun says services will resume once they find the specific reason for the hack.
“HTX and Heco Cross-Chain Bridge are experiencing a hacker attack. HTX will fully compensate the losses in HTX’s hot wallet. Deposits and withdrawals temporarily suspended.
All funds in HTX are safe and the community can rest easy. We investigate the specific reasons for the hacker attack. Once we complete the investigation and determine the cause, we will resume services.”
