The popular Yuga Labs project Meebits has just made its way into The Sandbox metaverse. On Wednesday, The Sandbox officially announced that Meebits holders will be able to explore this metaverse using their NFTs as avatars.
About the Sandbox x Meebits Collaboration
The Sandbox announced this collaboration via Twitter: “@MeebitsNFTs Enter The Sandbox! Now you can play #SandboxAlphaS3 as your Meebit avatar! Jump right in!” No doubt this partnership continues to emphasize Web 3’s interoperability spirit.
This isn’t the first time The Sandbox has collaborated with popular NFT collections. In fact, there are 18 other NFT collections in The Sandbox metaverse. Other high-profile collaborations include Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen, Alec Monopoly’s MetaMuseum, and Paris Hilton’s Malibu Mansion.
Plus, The Sandbox picked up another Yuga Labs project a few months ago: Bored Ape Yacht Club. On August 22, it announced the inclusion of every version of every monkey in its metaverse. Therefore, this Meebits collaboration expands The Sandbox’s relationship with Yuga Labs.
Will these collaborations energize The Sandbox’s active users?
According to recent reports, The Sandbox has 616 daily active users, while fellow metaverse Decentraland has 379 active users. However, both metaverses have a market cap of over $1.2 billion.
Therefore, collaboration with popular NFT projects such as The Sandbox could increase user engagement and the number of daily active users. No doubt The Sandbox has poor daily engagement compared to popular Web2 games like Roblox, with 54.1 million daily active users. This may be due to the fact that the metaverse is still in its infancy and many still view metaverses as investments, not worlds with engaged communities.
