AUSTIN, Texas – The early days of Marvel Studios, self-funded and independent of Hollywood’s major production houses, David Maisel recalls these early days of Web3, said the visionary behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe on stage at the 2023 Consensus on Friday -festival.
Maisel recently launched Mythos Studios, which hit the Ekos Genesis Art Collection earlier this month. The project features original art from the late comics artist Michael Turner and Peter Steigerwald, who are known for their work in Marvel and DC comics.
“I think there’s so much noise we have,” he said. “In our lives, our time is seized so often, so many distractions, that for something new to break through…it takes a visual identity to it and a primal sense of it. And art does that for me.”
According to Maisel, part of the fun of Web3 and digital art is the ability to share it.
“You don’t have to go to the museum alone or go to someone’s house,” Maisel said. “I hope this shows confidence from someone who hasn’t been to space. I really want to share this art and the possibilities around it.”
While the NFT market has been turbulent over the past six months, Maisel says art still has an underlying value beyond prices.
“The ‘why’ question comes from the same seed that was in me before Marvel,” Maisel said. “I don’t think I could [Web3] if I didn’t have the same passion.”
A Dutch auction for the Ekos Genesis Art Collection from Mythos Studios begins May 2 at 10 a.m. PT.
