Ethereum Layer 2 network Scroll appears to have launched its zkEVM live on the mainnet, with funds already being bridged to the platform, according to on-chain data.
According to a dashboard from Dune Analytics, more than 330 ETH ($515,000) has been bridged to date, which includes more than 850 transactions and almost 500 unique users. According to blockchain explorer Etherscan, the implementation of the bridge appears to have started on October 8.
There has been no official announcement from the Scroll team yet. However, users can already add the mainnet to their web3 wallets like MetaMask and transfer funds from other Ethereum-based networks to the zkEVM via third-party bridges like Owlto Finance. The minimum bridge amount is reportedly 0.0035 ETH (approximately $5).
Some dapps have also started integrating with the Scroll mainnet, including ScrollSwap – the first decentralized exchange on Scroll – and omnichain solution Merkly, allowing users to further play with the new network.
DefiLlama is already tracking ScrollSwap and three other DEXs on the Scroll zkEVM, reporting a total value of over $150,000 for Scroll applications to date.
There is also no confirmation if or when a Scroll token will be launched and distributed.
Battle-tested, challenging zkEVM approach
The Scroll zkEVM mainnet will follow a network testing phase, including its launch on the Ethereum Goerli testnet in February. Previously, Scroll was available for testing via the project’s own clone of Ethereum.
Scroll has spent two years developing its network, with 60 team members working with a broader network of external collaborators.
zkEVMs are Layer 2 networks built on Ethereum using zero-knowledge proofs for scalability. Being Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible, these networks can support Ethereum applications and run at scale at the same time.
