Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3 (OMA3) was jointly launched by several prominent blockchain-based companies and major metaverse platforms. Some of the companies include ‘The Sandbox’, ‘Decentraland’, ‘Animoca Brands’ and ‘Upland’. In summary, the organization’s goal is to guide the evolution of the metaverse in a direction that aligns with some of Web3’s core principles.
About OMA3
The Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3 (OMA3) was founded to prevent the negatives of web2 from finding their way into web3 and the metaverse. The organization believes in “a metaverse without walls, where individual platforms are connected and fully interoperable.” Some others, on the other hand, believe that the metaverse should be closed off with walled gardens. This extreme alternative is similar to the current state of web2, which is what OMA3 is trying to avoid.
OMA3 will be structured as a DAO operating as a consortium. The members of this group include some of the biggest names in web3 today. For those who share OMA3’s beliefs, this is certainly positive. As all these brands come together, it becomes more likely that the future of web3 will look like what they believe: decentralization and togetherness at the same time.
Their main principles are interoperability, standardization and ownership. Some of the projects they are working on include cross-platform standards. Additionally, transferable metaverse identities and portals between worlds, to name a few.
