After the pectra upgrade of Ethereum hit the mainstet on 7 May, the basic network sprints, which uses the fork to scale.
In an interview with Beincrypto, Jesse Pollak, head of the basic and coinbase wallet, explains how they double on transaction transport and groundbreaking smart wallet evolution.
Basic eyes Double transit with more blobs per block
The long-awaited Ethereum Pectra-Upgrade Hit Mainstje on 7 May, the unlocking of powerful new functions such as EIP-7702 and increasing blob capacity to support the rollability of the role.
For Jesse Pollak, maker of Basic and Head of Protocols in Coinbase, apart from marking a new chapter for Ethereum, the upgrade enables Base’s ambition to scale access to the economy on the chain.
In particular, Pollak noted that Pectra increases the data pass from Ethereum by expanding the number of blobs per block from 3-6 to 6–9. He said that this immediately influences the basic and other Layer-2-scale solutions that depend on Ethereum for the availability of data.
“The Pectra upgrade will double Ethereum’s capability to secure L2 transactions, including for Base, from a previous range of 3–6 blobs/block to a new range of 6–9 blobs/block. This means the ecosystem will have the potential to process 2x more transactions per second, keeping fees low as more activity Comes Onchain, “Pollak Told Beincrypto in the interview.
Base, launched by Coinbase in 2023, has already become a leading Ethereum-Laag-2, after dedinating arbitrum as the greatest optimistic roles on total value-secured (TVS) metrics.

Pollak confirmed that the team is aggressively pushing in the direction of a daring new milestone of the transit.
“At the beginning of the year we set an aggressive stretch goal to scale the base up to 250 mgas/s blockspace throughput – and we sprint to make that happen,” he said.
This fits in closely with the wider scaling route map of Ethereum. Developers such as Tim Beiko have confirmed that Pectra is a step up to even greater Blob capacity towards the end of the year. He said that the fork could see more than 10 × growth from the starting point of Dencun Upgrade.
Pectra becomes Wallets Smart – and the basis is ready
In the meantime, one of the most transforming upgrades of Pectra EIP-7702 is. With this improvement proposal, existing Ethereum accounts can upgrade to smart portfolios without changing their addresses or losing the history of the assets.
“Pectra’s 7702 makes smart wallet -upgrades possible. In the past, people had to make a new smart wallet to take advantage of this technology, including gas sponsorship and smart permissions. With this upgrade, everyone can upgrade from an existing traditional wallet to a smart wallet, with all their asstak, explained, address.
The basic signs continued and compared the experience with a seamless technical transition. He said it was as if “as if you are switching from a landline to a smartphone without changing your telephone number.”
In particular, the basis has already been built up to this future. In August 2024, Pollak revealed plans to launch a “Dream Wallet” within 6-12 months to transform web2 storage. Beincrypto reported that the potential dream portionian would be 10x better than existing web2 or on-chain solutions, which improves security and scalability.
“I outlined my ‘Dream Wallet’ that would be 10x better today than everything in Web2 or Onchain. Have to solve some harsh challenges, but I think we can get there in the coming ~ 6-12 months. Onchain will be 100x better than online,” Pollak shared in August.
With Pectra, that vision becomes considerably easier to realize. Jesse Pollak strives to refine the product to ensure that users feel familiar with the uniform Accounter experience.
“Users do not have to start fresh with a new smart wallet and transfer to the assets; they will have the option to upgrade an existing EOA wallet, in which all their existing assets and identity entail,” he said in the interview.
Scales past Pectra: Fusaka and the road for us
Furthermore, Pollak emphasized that Pectra is only one milestone for the global scalability on the chain. Basic, he said, contributes directly to the open-source of Ethereum, open standard future.
“Ethereum is built on open source and open standards, and Base actively contributes to those standards as an important part of our dedication to build in the open air,” noted the basic manager.
He has credited the dencun upgrade for the first time to unlock sub-centransactie costs, which eliminates a large barrier to make millions of more users on board.
Now that Pectra Blob space is increasing further, Pollak emphasized the active role of base in the development process.
“Base has contributed to this upgrade through deep technical research and development work, as well as community evangelization,” Pollak revealed.
He pointed to the next large milestone of Ethereum, the Fusaka -upgrade. According to Pollak, the Fusaka fork will add even more blob capacity.
“Our ultimate goal is to keep the transaction costs low while we scale the network to make more and more people come,” he said.
A future of seamless, scalable onchain access
With Pectra now live, basic benefits directly from the improved infrastructure of the L1, in terms of transit and user experience.
While Ethereum continues to grow with upgrades such as Fusaka, BASE positions itself as an important builder and beneficiary of the wider ecosystem. For now, Pollak’s vision is clear. He wants to push boundaries, scales in a responsible manner and endanger the following billion users without affordability or simplicity.

From this letter Base TVL (total value locked) was at $ 3.705 billion (blue), an increase of 21% of $ 3.063 billion on 7 May. Likewise, DEX volume (green) has also increased, which suggests that increased user confidence, liquidity and defi -acceptance.
