TL;DR
-
In May this year, Mattel teamed up with Boss Beauties to launch an NFT project with the aim being “to onboard the next 1 million women and girls into Web3” and to do so by having a cool product with as little friction as possible to purchase.
-
Apparently, Margot Robbie’s husband, Tom Ackerly, and one of the film’s producers, David Heyman, are so into BTC that almost every conversation moved onto the topic; to which Robbie termed ‘being a Ken.’
-
When BTC returns to its all time high and the ability to buy, store and sell NFTs becomes simple; they’re really the perfect vehicle for building community and promoting big movies like Barbie 2.

You’ve heard the stats: almost $800M in global box office sales, the “highest recorded” weekly admissions revenue in AMC’s 103-year history, the list goes on.
That’s right, today we’re talking about Barbie.
There are two things that link Barbie back to Web3.
-
The NFT collection that they worked on in combination with Boss Beauties a few months ago.
-
Margot Robbie’s husband.
The first one’s simple. In May this year, Mattel teamed up with Boss Beauties to launch an NFT project.
The NFTs were $25 for 4, and you couldn’t use crypto to buy them even if you wanted to.
The aim being “to onboard the next 1 million women and girls into Web3” and to do so by having a cool product with as little friction as possible to purchase.
The second needs some explaining…
Apparently, Margot Robbie’s husband, Tom Ackerly, and one of the film’s producers, David Heyman, are so into BTC that almost every conversation moved onto the topic.
To which Robbie termed ‘being a Ken.’
(We’ll take it as a compliment).
Here’s our prediction for Mattel and Web3:
Mattel already has their Barbie and Hot Wheels NFT collections.
PLUS, they have their very own peer-to-peer NFT marketplace.
While NFTs weren’t used too widely in their massive marketing campaign efforts this time, Mattel says they have 45 other movies about their toys in the plans.
The NFT market is young, bearish, and many still find buying and storing NFTs a difficult task.
But when those signs turn around – when BTC returns to its all time high and the ability to buy, store and sell NFTs becomes simple; they’re really the perfect vehicle for building community and promoting big movies like Barbie 2.
You heard it here first!
