Hedera Hashgraph LLC has donated its entire Hedera blockchain network code to the recently launched Decentralized Trust Linux Foundation initiative, signaling Hedera’s commitment to open source development. Hedera’s decision to make its entire code base, including the groundbreaking Hashgraph consensus algorithm, available to the Decentralized Trust Linux Foundation project highlights an important step toward decentralization and transparency.
According to a press release to the media, the source code donated by Hedera Hashgraph LLC is managed and controlled as the “Hiero” project led by LF Decentralized Trust. The newly created “Hiero” project provides developers around the world with access to Hedera’s core services, tools and libraries, enabling collaboration in an open and inclusive environment. The initiative is in line with Hedera’s long-standing mission to increase trust in decentralized technologies while empowering developers to build decentralized applications (dApps).
The Hiero project aims to support the development of a wide range of applications including wallets, decentralized exchanges, private ledgers and cryptographic solutions tailored to the Hedera ecosystem. Hedera’s leadership role in this initiative is further strengthened by the appointment of President Charles ADKINS to the LF Decentralized Trust Board of Directors. He will join industry leaders from renowned organizations such as Accenture, DTCC and Hitachi, who are also distinguished members of the Linux Foundation.
