Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has sketched a strategy to secure the network in a world after the quantum.
In a broadcast of 20 February, he emphasized the urgency of adjusting blockchain systems such as quantum compressical progress.
Hoskinson’s comments come when he praises Majorana 1 Quantum chip from Microsoft. The founder of Cardano said that technology is one of the most important progress in the history of the Kwantum Computing
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella described the chip so small enough to fit into the palm of one hand, but able to solve problems that go beyond the reach of all current computers in the world.
Cardano’s plan for quantum protection
Hoskinson stated that the network will introduce a proof chain that functions as an independent verification layer to prepare for this groundbreaking technology.
This extra security measure will use advanced cryptographic techniques, including Mithril certificates and signatures after the quantum, to maintain the integrity of earlier transactions.
Hoskinson, however, noted that these solutions are supplied with considerations, such as slower processing times and increased data requirements that could introduce inefficiencies.
Nevertheless, he pointed out that the goal is in the long term to integrate the test chain into the main blocks, which switches from traditional elliptical curve cryptography to quantum-resistant alternatives.
He added that researchers explore new ledger models outside the standard UTXO framework to improve security and scalability.
Challenges and route map
Quantum Computing evolves quickly and may exceed cryptographic standards in the following decade.
Despite this urgency, the cryptography remains in its development phase after the quantum, with several competing approaches, including hash-based and grid-based coding. To stay ahead of these challenges, Cardano will collaborate with industry experts and assign important resources to research.
Hoskinson continued that although Cardano would prepare for this technology, the ecosystem would wait for the broad consensus before he made important changes.
He noted that quantum -resistant characteristics could be introduced within a few years, starting with the Proof Chain, while the full use of security measures after the quantum will take longer. However, research efforts will be a priority in the coming years to ensure that the network remains resilient.
