Film3, a community of filmmakers and entertainment professionals looking to leverage blockchain technology, will be in the spotlight again this weekend at the second annual Film3 Summit in Los Angeles.
The event, produced by “The Squad” – a core collective of Film3 enthusiasts founded by filmmaker Jordan Bayne – will take place October 27-29 at Famecast’s Santa Monica offices. The Squad advocates the use of decentralized tools to create a more equitable, accessible, and financially viable framework for film production and distribution.
The Film3 Summit will consist of panels and fireside chats on various topics related to the current state of the entertainment industry and the campaign to disrupt it, including the recently resolved issues writers’ strike in Hollywood, the ongoing actors’ strikeand the importance of collective action.

Participants in the three-day festival’s programming include Rachel Winter, the Oscar-nominated producer of “Dallas Buyers Club,” Miguel Faus, writer and director of the upcoming NFT-funded film. “The Silent Girl,” actor Laurence Fuller, and Leo Matchett, the co-founder and CEO of Decentralized images, a non-profit organization dedicated to using blockchain technology to revolutionize film financing. “The Film3 Summit serves as a conduit not only for education, but also for bridging Web3 to Hollywood,” Bayne said. This year the summit will also include a sister event, the MetaFilm3 Fest, which will take place entirely online. MetaFilm3, a Netflix-style pop-up streaming event open to audiences worldwide, is powered by Thetaa decentralized protocol for video streaming.

The virtual Fest, which kicks off on October 27 and will last a week, will feature multiple panels, as well as the world premiere of multiple films and the blockchain-enabled platform debut of others. Thanks to the on-chain technology developed by Theta, the festival can safely stream films to registered visitors via NFT cardswhich costs $30 each.
The Film3 community, led by The Squad, organized a similar virtual film festival this year, MetaCanneswhich ran parallel to the iconic Cannes Film Festival.
