TL; DR
Full story
MoonPay just poured $1 million into the Coinbase-initiated “Stand With Crypto” campaign.
(The goal is to support bipartisan, crypto-friendly politicians in Congress to help push for clearer crypto regulation in the US).
What we are all for!
…honestly, the fact that crypto is somehow a partisan issue? That feels strange.
And we know what you’re thinking:
‘Of course you would say that: you are crypto people. It is in your interest that it has bipartisan support.”
Which is true!
But here’s our theory on why making crypto a partisan issue is a huge misstep:
We’ve met/seen/heard a lot of people who are very apathetic towards crypto, but very few are directly anti-crypto.
In fact, most of them are not necessarily anti-crypto, but anti “having to listen to another lecture on the problem of the Byzantine general and the importance of hard currency.”
And we get it! It’s boring to listen to if you don’t like it.
(We have had family members set clear rules ‘no crypto talk at the dinner table’).
But going anti-crypto feels like a losing strategy, in the sense that there are very few people in the US who are anti-crypto voters on one issue.
(While there is a whole group of pro-crypto voters with one issue).
So another $1 million for a campaign that aims to balance the issue?
Bravo MoonPay, bravo.
