According to recent reports, Brave has launched automatic NFT pinning, allowing users to securely store NFTs metadata in Brave’s Wallet. The goal is to provide data security and easy access to FVM on top of Filecoin EVM.
The original launch dates back to May 2, 2023, when the update actually came to light, citing the goal of supporting the adoption and development of a decentralized web around the world. Brave registered over 57 million users in early May 2023. There is a good chance that the number of users has increased and that a larger proportion have access to the mechanism of automatic NFT pinning.
To clarify, pinning here refers to informing IPFS (Interplanetary File System) to store the metadata in a specific location indefinitely. The file remains available at the user’s convenience. The whole point is to spread even the risk of data loss by storing them in multiple locations. So improving resilience for the long term.
Brian Bondy, the co-founder and Chief Technological Officer at Brave, highlighted in the previous announcement that the development allows a user to access the feature with just a few clicks to ensure that the information is continuously available within the framework.
Users do not need to have knowledge of the mechanism. Regardless of the background, the feature is useful for everyone to let them save the metadata and reduce the risk of losing it forever. One has to enable IPFS to continue with the process. Not all NFTs may be eligible for automatic pinning.
It’s important to note that NFTs don’t get an extra layer of security, but the data is kept across networks through a distributed set of copies. Pinning is accessible for Ethereum based ERC-721 tokens. There are plans in the pipeline to expand the scope to include more chains and tokenization standards in the coming days.
What makes this interesting is the fact that automatic NFT pinning can also be performed by wallet addresses that are not related to Brave. Other addresses outside of Brave’s own portfolio can be linked by manually listing token details. Brave Wallet will then display and back up the NFT.
Brave announces automatic NFT pinning to complement its efforts to simplify access to FVM, short for Filecoin Virtual Machine, on top of Filecoin EVM.
Brave previously announced a partnership with Transak aiming to expand crypto purchases around the world by integrating multiple payment methods and adding 50 new assets. This particular update dates back to the last days of May 2023, informing the community that the integration spans Polygon, BNB Chain, Ethereum, and Arbitrum, along with Optimism.
This gives users more options to purchase and deposit tokens according to their preference. Brian expressed his enthusiasm for the development, saying it gives users more options to purchase cryptocurrencies using different payment methods. The automatic NFT pinning is now available to users of Brave on desktop versions and offers a unique experience on the web.
