The leaders of a Brazilian Crypto Ponzi scheme are reportedly a combined punishment of more than 170 years behind bars.
According to a new report, the three leaders of Braiscompany, who committed the scheme, were convicted of cheating investors of almost $ 190 million, or $ 1.1 billion Brazilian Reals.
The report says that the company’s chief operator, Joel Ferreira de Souza, got a 128 -year meaning behind bars, while the other two perpetrators, Gesana Rayane Silva and Victor Augusto Veronez de Souza, the sentences were 28 and 15 years old.
According to the authorities, the trio promised “exorbitant” return on the crypto investments of their victims in the first instance to get their money and to deal with money laundering.
Ferreira de Souza appeared to check crypto portfolios through third parties, and used Shell companies to facilitate his crimes. He was convicted of 11 counts of money laundering, while Reyane Silva, the broker of the company, was found to be responsible for mediating financial transactions and the transport of funds. De Souza, the son of Joel, was also found guilty of being involved in one of the companies involved in the illegal transactions.
The judge in the case said that the proceeds from the scam should go directly to the government. Artêmio Picanço – the lawyer who represents the victims of Braiscompany – argued about one of his social media accounts that the fund should go directly to the victims.
