BitMEX founder Arthur Hayes says the crypto industry doesn’t care who wins the upcoming presidential election.
Speaking at the Token 2049 event in Singapore, Maelstrom’s CIO says he doesn’t believe Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is sincere in espousing pro-crypto positions.
“I don’t understand why crypto brothers and women are so pro-Trump, because Trump was president for four years and he did that. [nothing] and now he wants a bunch of crypto donations?
He says the right things out of his mouth, launches a kind of DeFi (decentralized finance) [garbage] or whatever he does, and suddenly people say, “Oh yeah, you’ve been president for four years, you’ve had every opportunity to do all these things, and you’ve done nothing.” Are you suddenly going to do something now? I don’t think so. ”
And when it comes to Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, Hayes says she and her side of the aisle have been consistently “hostile” toward the digital asset industry.
He also notes how an explosion of growth occurred for Bitcoin (BTC) without any help from regulators.
“The Democrats and their administration were hostile to crypto. My point is: who cares? It doesn’t matter. Bitcoin went from zero to a market cap of $1-2 trillion without clear regulation or support from government agencies.
We don’t need them. Why would you grovel to these people to beg for leftovers from the table? Keep building the things you should be building…
In the end it doesn’t matter, because the Republicans in the US are going to cut taxes without cutting spending, so that the government deficit increases and the Democrats get more social benefits and the government deficit increases.”
