According to on-chain data, a long-dormant crypto whale has awakened after years of slumber to move millions of dollars worth of Bitcoin (BTC).
New data from market information agency Whale Alert reveals a wallet that has been dormant for over 12 years has abruptly woken up and sent 159 BTC worth approximately $11.75 million.
The wallet first received 759 Bitcoin in September 2012 for a total of $7,974, suggesting an average price of $10.50 for the BTC stack. The numbers indicate that the whale moved the 159 BTC treasure after printing gains of over 700,000%.
The wallet currently holds 590 BTC worth approximately $40.9 million at the time of writing.
Whale Alert also saw other long-dormant whales awaken this week.
One whale woke up after more than thirteen years sent to another wallet all their 20 Bitcoin.
“A dormant address with 20 BTC ($1,460,630) has just been activated after 13.3 years!”
Another whale woke up after more than eleven years movement 14 Bitcoin with a gain of over 157,343%.
“A dormant address with 14 BTC ($1,054,874) has just been activated after 11.6 years (worth $670 in 2013)!”
Whale Alert also saw a whale wake up after 13 years to steer 1.5 BTC to the crypto exchange Kraken.
“A dormant address with 28 BTC ($1,995,139) has just been activated after 13.6 years!”
Finally, Whale Alert says that a wallet that had been asleep for over eleven years suddenly woke up to steer about 5 BTC to crypto exchange Coinbase.
“A dormant address with 16 BTC ($1,166,157) has just been activated after 11.4 years!”
Bitcoin is trading at $69,456 at the time of writing, down 1.3% in the past 24 hours.
