Base moves the test network from Goerli to Sepolia. The goal is quite simple: Base wants to create a unified ecosystem and foster an app development environment. This means it’s more than just a technical requirement to make the switch.
Creating a more unified ecosystem is an attempt to go hand in hand with optimism. Both have a shared vision of creating a superchain future. The Sepola environment is ideal for developing applications. According to the announcement, the environment is tailor-made for app development. Most importantly, it fits the main purpose of the original testnet.
However, the community can rest assured that Sepolia will not exist alone for the next two to three months. Base has committed to their coexistence from mid-October 2023 to January 2024. Only after January of the following year will Sepolia exist entirely on its own, making it a unique testnet.
Base calls this an important milestone and adds that it is part of their commitment to a more harmonized ecosystem. A transition to Sepolia will provide more opportunities for collaboration with app developers, Optimism and the builder community.
Base is fresh from the festive collaboration with LandTorn. Both celebrated Lorak, an important milestone in the onchain game. These achievements include the launch of the Coinbase mobile app and the completion of over 300,000 dungeons. They have given out a reward to Base Day One NFT holders, announcing that they will receive a free Spoil in the game on October 30, 2023.
Some of the achievements of LandTorn are:-
- Achieving a top 1-2 match on the base
- 333k Pamper NFT
- 75,000 settlers
- More than 900 holders of $SHARD
As for Base alone, this was previously seen as building pessimism to make creative projects come to life. That is an open source monitoring system designed to increase the security of Base. Pessimism is able to quickly detect and respond to a number of threats. This protects the network and ecosystem against external threats. The pessimism was first tested in internal operations before it was made available to the public.
In general, Pessimism ensures performance evaluation and safety. It ensures that user recordings are secure, potential errors are detected in time, boundaries are enforced in a balanced manner for each account, and smart contracts detect events.
Returning to Base and shifting to Sepolia, this comes after Base shares that it will only be co-hosting activities on Goerli until January 2024. Both will coexist in mid-October. That is, the coexistence concept should be live at the time this piece is formulated. The transition concerns the entire testnet infrastructure. It’s not just a technical shift, but also a shift toward creating a more unified ecosystem.
Sepolia is specifically designed to meet app development requirements and align with the core purpose of the testnet.
