This past week, Avenged Sevenfold announced that they will be producing one million NFTs for their alternative reality game (ARG) and unveiling the album “Life is But a Dream…”, accompanied by a single release. This includes a massive airdrop of more than 335,000 digital collectibles from Ticketmaster and the creation of 215,000 digital collectibles for merchandise, creating a unique rewards program for the band’s dedicated fanbase.
Singer M. Shadows, a key figure in the music scene since the ’90s, revealed in a recent interview with Variety that he has been exploring the Web3 space since 2016, delving into Bitcoin and Ethereum and finding inspiration in NFT communities. This exploration gave rise to the Deathbats Club, the blockchain-based fan club with 10,000 memberships.
“I see blockchain as a tool to simplify the music industry’s complex data flows and provide a comprehensive fan engagement scorecard.”

Despite challenges in educating fans about crypto and NFTs, the partnership with Bitflips provides protection and support for the band’s blockchain initiatives.

Looking ahead, Shadows envisions a future where all music merchandise is scannable, and artist fan clubs will undoubtedly thrive on the blockchain. Avenged Sevenfold wants to lead and demonstrate that blockchain brings tangible improvements to the lives of fans in the complicated music industry.
“Our band’s monumental undertaking not only illustrates the benefits of blockchain technology, but invites industry leaders and enthusiasts to explore the endless possibilities of the transformative intersection of music and blockchain,” concluded Shadows.
