DePIN and peaq have announced an increase in the privacy of their network through a partnership with ATOR, aiming to provide improved anonymity to DePINs operating on peaq’s infrastructure.
The integration of ATOR into peaq’s network will entail an expansion of liquidity and a technical merger that will allow other DePINs to access ATOR’s network. The move comes at a time when demand for online privacy is rising, with traditional solutions such as VPNs and the Tor network facing criticism for centralization and limited capabilities.

“Online surveillance and privacy violations are becoming more blatant by the day,” said Saunder, an engineer at ATOR. “And more than half of internet users consider this a priority. As DePINs transform industries and connected infrastructure, they must provide their communities with a level of privacy without compromising the user experience. With ATOR, DePINs, building on peaq, will be able to do just that, and we are excited to move forward with this integration.”
ATOR’s approach uses onion routing technology in a decentralized model, encouraging a network of nodes without the need for central authority nodes. This architecture promises greater security and resilience, and with the use of their SDK, dApps and other DePINs can seamlessly connect to the ATOR network.
The partnership will also see ATOR bridge its token with peaq’s layer-1 blockchain, allowing DePINs on peaq to effortlessly integrate ATOR’s privacy features. Additionally, ATOR plans to explore the use of peaq’s multi-chain IDs and modular DePIN features for its relay network.
“Secure and anonymous traffic is an important part of Web3’s promise of a more privacy-oriented and self-sovereign Internet,” said Till Wendler, co-founder of peaq. “ATOR’s anonymity stack makes it a valuable architectural component for any DePIN, and we are confident it will create a lot of value for the ecosystem.”
