TL; DR
-
Atari – maker of Pong, Pacman, and Space Invaders – just announced they’re launching a new line of merchandise exclusively for their NFT holders.
-
Drops like this allow Atari to dip its toe in the Web3 waters without diving in completely.
-
Overall, we’d give this a 9/10 on the ‘cautious approach to Web3’ scale – but that’s not a bad thing at all!
Full story
One of the OG gaming companies combines fashion and games (exclusively for NFT holders).
This is what we’re talking about:
Atari – maker of Pong, Pacman, and Space Invaders – just announced they’re launching a new line of merchandise exclusively for their NFT holders.
Specifically, they are launching new versions of the Atari Club membership jackets, inspired by the 80s originals.
We like this so much because…
-
If there is one proven marketing method, it is through exclusivity.
By making their jackets exclusive to ARC NFT holdersAtari says, “You want to wear our uniform? Must be in the club.”
-
Drops like this allow Atari to dip its toe in the Web3 waters without diving in completely.
While Atari has always been at the forefront of gaming, Atari ways to implement Web3 into their games.
-
Most of all, we love this because it is very difficult to build a brand from scratch.
We’ve seen it a few times in the Web3 space with BAYC and Pudgy Penguins (just to name a few), but boy, isn’t that the hard way.
Atari, on the other hand, has over 50 years of brand recognition. It has nostalgia, it has millions of users and it has a ability to leverage the good parts of Web3 (NFT communities, in-game NFTs, crypto, etc.) and offer them in unique ways, without the need to build their brand at the same time.
Overall, we rate this a 9/10 on the ‘cautious approach to Web3’ scale.
But that’s not a bad thing at all!
