The co-founder of the original memecoin is calling out Gary Gensler after the chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said Bitcoin (BTC) is not a security.
In a new interview with CNBC, SEC Chairman Gensler clearly states that BTC is not a security.
“As far as Bitcoin is concerned, my predecessor and I said it is not a security.”
The designation of Bitcoin as a “non-security” places the regulation of the flagship crypto outside the jurisdiction of the SEC.
In response to the news, Dogecoin (DOGE) creator Billy Markus took to social media platform X to call out Gensler for not giving DOGE the same rating.
“he should say that dogecoin is not a security because it is mostly bitcoin code and works exactly the same”
Gensler has not yet responded to DOGE’s vocal co-founder.
This isn’t the first time Markus has criticized Gensler’s performance as SEC chairman. In December last year, Markus responded with some harsh words to a claim from Gensler that fraud and non-compliance are rife within the digital asset industry.
‘You’ve never made any real rules, you’re just hand-waving. You’re basically useless in every way.”
DOGE is trading at $0.117 at the time of writing, up 11% in the past week.
