There’s a saying coined by Peter Thiel that underlines the tech world’s tendency to over-promise and under-deliver:
“We wanted flying cars, but we got 140 characters instead” (referring to Twitter’s original 140 character limit).
Another favorite of ours comes from Elon Musk’s son, Saxon, when he asked the question:

Because sometimes technology can be so…meh.
That’s why strange combinations/applications of new technology like these catch our attention:
There is currently a fully automatic robot that serves coffee and ice cream with sprinkles Token2049 Conference.
And it’s all backed by a fully decentralized crypto payment system.
Okay, okay, it might not be as awe-inspiring as flying cars… and it might not solve a big, glaring problem at a societal level…
But it’s damn cool (and a solid step up from ‘text threads online’, right?)
What’s the hidden takeaway here?
Crypto payment rails are quickly becoming faster/easier to implement than traditional payment systems.
It’s not the sexiest use case… but finding product-market fit, and that’s what the race for adoption is all about.
