Emi YOSHIKAWA, Ripple’s vice president of corporate strategy and operations, took to social media X to comment on Japanese giant SBI Holdings’ recent XRPL initiative, calling it a “huge” deal. SBI plans to use the XRP Ledger to issue non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to visitors to Expo 2025, the upcoming World Expo to be held in Osaka, Japan.
The NFT MYAKU-MYAKU, the official Expo character, can be obtained by visiting Explo and completing various missions. Attendees can also receive additional NFTs when they use the Expo mobile app. It is worth noting that the event is expected to attract 28 million visitors. XRPL validator Vet believes that the inclusion of XRPL NFTs should significantly increase their visibility and demonstrate their ability to serve “real world purposes.”
World’s fairs, designed to shed light on scientific, economic and technological progress, are held every five years. The last World Expo was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in 2020. Previously it was held in Milan, Italy, in 2015. The very first World’s Fair took place in London, Great Britain, in 1851. These large-scale events were then regulated with the establishment of the Bureau International des Expositions in Paris in the late 1920s. The Osaka World Expo is expected to last from April to October 2025.
