Solana developers are gearing up to fix the bug causing network congestion in mid-April.
Mert Mumtaz, the CEO of Helius Labs and an outspoken supporter of Solana, shared this development on social media platform X, noting that the patch is expected to be deployed on April 15.
In recent weeks, Solana has seen a rapid increase in failed transactions. Market observers have attributed these problems to the increased popularity of the blockchain and high network activity due to the proliferation of automated bots seeking to seize arbitrage opportunities.
Austin Federa, head of strategy at Solana, said:
“Solana sees traffic and demand that no other network has ever come close to – it’s a stress test of the entire system. These are exactly the kind of stress tests that you cannot model in a simulation; you just have to see how things work in production and adapt.”
Implementation error
According to Mumtaz, the persistent network congestion is not the result of a fundamental design flaw, but rather an implementation problem, which is usually easier to solve. He said:
“It is important to make this distinction because implementation errors are usually trivial (they can be interchanged with other implementations) – but design errors are generally serious and more fundamental.”
The congestion issues stem from Solana’s use of the QUIC network protocol, specifically the “quin implementation of QUIC.”
While resolution is scheduled for April 15, additional issues uncovered during the process could extend the timeline.
Mumtaz emphasized that in addition to technical issues, Solana is also grappling with economic factors that contribute to the current challenges.
Solana projects are delayed
Meanwhile, the current issues facing Solana have forced several crypto projects on the network to postpone their launches indefinitely.
Solana staking reward platform Surge Finance said it postponed the launch of its native token until further notice market “conditions improve sufficiently for transactions to succeed.”
The same goes for the real-world asset platform Sky Hause delayed the launch of the strike feature due to the congestion on Solana. Identity platform myBID has also postponed its launch due to these issues.
