A new partnership has been forged between Oasys, a fast-growing blockchain network focused on gaming, and Metabora SG, the Web3 gaming arm of renowned South Korean video game company Kakao Games.
The partnership plans to “create and deliver superior blockchain games to more users,” as stated in an Oasys statement issued Wednesday. It is part of Oasys’ 2024 ‘Dragon Update’ strategy, which emphasizes creating high-quality gaming content, expanding the ecosystem and improving interoperability.
According to a statement from Oasys, Dominic Jang, Head of Business Development and Head of Korea:
“We are excited to partner with Metabora SG, a company that fully shares our vision of revolutionizing the gaming industry through the use of blockchain technology.”
Black Desert Line and PUBG are two titles that Kakao Games is known for. Perhaps parent company Kakao’s best-known product is KakaoTalk, a popular free chat service in the country. A variety of blockchain games have been showcased through Metabora, including the role-playing game ArcheStar, the golf game Birdie Shot and the puzzle game Skill Blitz.
The partnership “marks another important milestone for further business expansion” in South Korea, Jang said. To facilitate the entry of Metabora SG into Japan, Oasys also intends to use its current network there.
Oasys has gained popularity in recent months as the network of choice for established video game companies venturing into the Web3 space. Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, the first original blockchain game developed by Assassin’s Creed game publisher Ubisoft, is now being built on Oasys. In December, Ubisoft released an Ethereum NFT collection that is free and tied to the game.
Additionally, Sega has partnered with Double Jump.Tokyo, a Japanese company, to launch a Battle of the Three Kingdoms game and other IP on Oasys for Web3 gaming. Meanwhile, last year saw the first release of an experimental AI-driven game on-chain from gaming giant Bandai Namco (Pac-Man, Tekken).
Recently, Oasys revealed that Com2uS, a South Korean mobile games company, would be transferring titles from its XPLA ecosystem to Oasys. The announcement came before the price of the OAS token rose to a new all-time high of over $0.14 on February 13, according to CoinGecko.
