Security experts are warning millions of Apple users about a new scam designed to get your sensitive personal and banking information.
The scam comes in the form of several fake iCloud text messages with malicious links, Trend Micro reports.
Here’s a look at the false alerts:
- TERMINATION OF THE CLOUD SERVICE. Upgrade now or lose your saved photos and files.
- ACCOUNT SUSPENDED: Your cloud account has been suspended because the limit has been reached. Upgrade NOW or claim 100 GB FREE
- CLOUD STORAGE WARNING. Upgrade instantly or say goodbye to your saved photos and files.
When the links are clicked, unsuspecting users are taken to a fake iCloud login page.
And once you log in, scammers immediately gain access to private data, with iCloud Keychain users especially at risk of losing credit and debit card details and website login details.
Trend Micro says it has blocked phishing attempts more than 5,000 times on behalf of its customers in the past week.
“Don’t click! Doing so will take you to a fake iCloud login page and allow scammers to steal your credentials.
This allows them to block you from accessing your account, make purchases using your stored credit card information, and even access your private information. Watch out!”
