Donald Trump announced a new $99 NFT collection – the ‘Mugshot Edition’, a nod to the former US president’s legal troubles – which sent prices soaring for the non-fungible tokens he had already issued.
Those who purchase 47 Trump tickets (if he is elected next year, Trump would be the 47th U.S. president) or more will dine with the former Mar-a-Lago resident and receive a piece of the suit Trump wore for his mugshot when he was arrested in August.
“In this edition, some cards will even be unique (the only ones in the world), while others may even be hand-signed by President Donald J. Trump,” according to the NFT project’s website.
Previously issued Trump NFTs fell to just 0.1 ether (ETH), half the 0.2 ETH price they were trading at before the announcement, but rock bottom prices subsequently recovered to around 0.18 ETH, according to data from NFT- marketplace OpenSea.
Despite Trump being a crypto skeptic when he was president, he debuted an NFT project last year called Trump Digital Collectible Cards featuring sports images of himself that resemble baseball cards. In April he released a second series of collectibles. Both collections were sold out.
Trump had $2.8 million in a cryptocurrency wallet made from NFT sales as of early August, according to official documents obtained by ethics watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
