At an important intersection of art and technology, oases, a notable NFT (non-fungible tokens) platform, recently announced its partnership with the Belvedere Museum in Vienna. The collaboration aims to transform Gustav Klimt’s iconic artwork, ‘The Kiss’, into a series of NFTs.
Created by Austrian artist Gustav Klimt in 1907, ‘The Kiss’ remains a celebrated masterpiece of the Art Nouveau era. The visually stunning depiction of a couple’s intimate embrace amid a flower-laden field has earned the painting the title of the centerpiece of Belvedere’s collection.
To transform this timeless artwork into a digital asset, Belvedere Museum has initiated a unique NFT project. They segmented a high-resolution digital replica of ‘The Kiss’ into a 100×100 grid, resulting in 10,000 exclusive NFTs. These digital tokens use blockchain technology to verify and establish ownership of the digital assets.
Oases, a global NFT marketplace known for its curated array of top-tier digital art and collectibles, will act as the Belvedere Museum’s sales associate for ‘The Kiss’ NFTs. With a mission to build a dynamic community of creative artists and discerning collectors, Oases is all set to navigate this innovative venture.
The artwork in the picture, ‘The Kiss (Lovers),’ painted in 1908/09, shows a deeply engrossed couple, seemingly oblivious to the world around them. During his esteemed ‘Golden Age’, Klimt composed this allegorical representation of love as a core aspect of human existence. Since its purchase by the Austrian state in 1908 for the newly established Modern Gallery in Lower Belvedere, the painting is still in the museum’s collection. Today, ‘The Kiss’ is a symbol of Viennese Art Nouveau and European Modernism, marking one of the most recognized works of art in the world.
The Belvedere Museum in Vienna serves as an international platform for Austrian art, displaying work from the Middle Ages to the contemporary era in three locations. The museum, which includes the Upper and Lower Belvedere and its garden, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With its extensive collection, including 24 paintings by Gustav Klimt, the museum houses the world’s largest collection of Klimt’s works. Belvedere continues to maintain its prestigious status through continuous development and digital advancement.
