Last night, Snoop Dogg and Eminem performed their latest song “From The D 2 The LBC” live at the VMAs via the Otherside metaverse. The two rappers’ immersive VMA experience featured their Bored Ape avatars, cannabis references, and even Otherside’s Koda NFT avatars.
This is the first time two major artists have used their BAYC NFTs in a live performance, and the first time MTV has featured the Metaverse. The VMA even called the show an “absolutely legendary performance” – and so does the NFT community!
How was the VMA performance of the Bored Ape holders?
On August 28, hip-hop icons Snoop Dogg and Eminem reunited to perform their latest single “From The D 2 The LBC” at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The show started with Eminem and Snoop Dogg smoking on a couch. Soon the two drift off on a journey to the metaverse. There, fans could see the digital avatars perform in colorful landscapes.
At one point, the rappers transform into their Bored Ape NFTs as they explore the Otherside metaverse. On the VMA stage they shared, giant BAYC avatars danced along to the rhythm of the dark track.
Accordingly, MTV partnered with Yuga Labs for the unique performance. Naturally, the groundbreaking show has put the spotlight on the NFT market like never before.
Why did Eminem & Snoop Dogg use the Otherside meta?
Some of the rappers’ live performance contains clear references to the Otherside metaverse. For example, we can see Eminem and Snoop Dogg encounter three giant Koda avatars on their Metaverse journey.
Basically, Kodas are the main creatures behind the Otherside digital universe. These mysterious creatures use their energy to keep their microverse intact. According to the storyline, Kodas has decided that Bored Apes and a few other collectibles (mainly from Yuga Labs) can also join the Otherside.
So it’s no wonder Eminem and Snoop Dogg created a mix between their BAYC avatars and glimpses of the Otherside meta. The result is an unforgettable mix of memorable NFT projects.
How did the audience react to Eminem and Snoop Dogg’s NFT show?
For starters, hip-hop fans were thrilled to see the two icons perform live again. Surprisingly, this is the first time in over 20 years that Eminem and Snoop Dogg have shared the stage. This time, their enthusiasm for NFTs may be part of the reason for their collaboration.
After all, Snoop Dogg has one of the largest NFT collections on the market. Meanwhile, Eminem is the proud holder of a Bored Ape NFT and the ENS address Eminem.eth.
Together, the rappers used their BAYC IP commercial rights to create an impressive video for their song “From The D 2 The LBC”. The song premiered on Apefest in June; of course, the NFT community was instantly hooked.
Eminem and Snoop Dogg’s BAYC-themed video received a nomination for Best Hip-Hop Video at this year’s MTV VMAs. All in all, the live performance opened many doors for NFT creators to mainstream audiences around the world.
