On June 1, 2023, digital collection platform Candy Digital will once again join forces with Getty Images to launch a new collection of digital photos titled City Diaries: Visual Narratives From Around the World, according to a press release now shared with nft. The collection will consist of snapshots of seven iconic cities around the world: New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, Mexico City, Istanbul and Mumbai.
Getty and Candy Digital’s first joint venture, the 1970s Music & Culture Collection, brought rare images of 1970s music icons to the digital realm on Web3 for collectors to acquire. Now they are shifting the focus from the world of music to the realm of urban landscapes, offering photography enthusiasts a mix of history and culture and giving collectors the chance to delve into the stories of these metropolises.
Complex, wealthy cities
City Diaries will feature works by a range of photographers, including Bert Hardy, who was one of the first to abandon the use of a traditional large-format press camera in favor of a 35mm Leica, and JF Davis, an emerging talent celebrated for his striking and dreamy depictions of sports and culture.
In compiling City Diaries, Getty sought to capture the complexity and richness of the cities the collection presents. The team chose a selection of images of the cities from the Getty Images Archive, each of which captures the spirit of the respective metropolis.
In addition to purchasing limited edition individual photos, Candy Digital is offering a pack deal for collectors: packs of two images, each pack associated with a particular city in the collection. These packs provide users with a blind coin experience, as they do not know which two images they will receive. Collectors who collect all four images of a given city, either through the primary or secondary marketplace, will receive a unique ‘Eiffel Tower’ chaser.
Like the 1970s Music & Culture Collection, City Diaries will include a free digital intro photo available to save during release. The image, believed to be from the 1930s, captures a moment when one boy clambers onto another’s back for an unobstructed view of a baseball game.
The City Diaries collection is on sale from June 1, 1:00 PM ET, to June 30, 5:00 PM ET, 2023.
